Experimental and Computational Micro-Characterization Techniques in Wood Mechanics

Stephen Shaler

Stephen Shaler is a Professor of Wood Science and Associate Director of the Advanced Engineered Wood Composites (AEWC) Center at the University of Maine. He was co-principal investigator of a large National Science Foundation grant which recently established the Forest Bioproducts Research Initiative and is a participant of the industrially sponsored Paper Surface Science Program. His research activities have focused on development and use of experimental techniques for measurement of micromechanical properties of wood based composites with a focus on imaging technologies. Current research activities include measurement and visualization of wood strand dynamics during manufacturing processes and evaluation of a biorefinery concept applied to Oriented Strand Board manufacturing.
