Department of life sciences: plant biochemistry and biophysics, with special accent on physiology of stress; related analysis of molecular components involved in biochemical processes; analysis of the electrical potentials from brain of various experimental animals; development of new linear and nonlinear mathematical models in analysis of spectra and biological signals.

Department of material science: synthesis and characterization of new materials for application in electronics, metallurgy, environmental protection, industry of fuel; thin film deposition, producing thin films of excellent quality using well-known chemical methods and some original methods.

Department of environmental protection: Ecophysiology of fish with special accent on mineral nutrition; bioremediation of the soil and water, especially concerning organic pollutants; management of surface waters; energy conversion and renewable sources of energy with special accent on energy of wind and biomass.
